Advocating for Health &Commodities Access in Busia

Citizen TV Feature on HIV Prevention in Busia County
Citizen TV Kenya • Special Report

In a special broadcast by Citizen TV Kenya, the spotlight is turned on the rising HIV infection rates in Busia County and the critical shortage of health commodities, PrEP, and STI treatment in integrated facilities.

“Right now we don't have commodities — we don't have condoms, we don't have STI drugs. We are calling on the national government under NASCOP to ensure these essential commodities are available across integrated facilities.”

Situated along a major cross-border transit corridor, community-led intervention in Busia is vital not only locally, but across the wider region. Our advocacy focuses on ensuring vulnerable populations receive timely screening, care, and continuous health supplies.

Advocate for justice

“What Survivors of Busia has built at the border is some of the most instrumental grassroots work happening in the sex worker rights space in Kenya today. Busia isn't an easy place to organise — it's a crossing point, where women move in and out with the rhythms of trade and survival, often without documentation or safety nets. This team stepped into that gap and built a consistent, trusted presence for sex workers navigating both Kenyan and cross-border realities — centring migrant and mobile sex workers who so often fall through the cracks of programming built for fixed, urban populations. This work deserves recognition, and it deserves sustained investment.”
